Proposed Research Title
Developing forecast models for allergenic fungal spores

The overall objective is to construct short term (2-3 days) and medium term (5-7 days) forecast models for two the most allergenic fungi Alternaria spp. and Cladosporium spp. The first aim of this project is to update the fungal spore calendar for Worcester composed by Adams-Groom et al. 2005 by examining slides collected between 2005 and 2010. The second aim is to study daily and diurnal variations in fungal airborne concentration in relation to meteorological factors. Results will also be compared with spore and meteorological data obtained from Jagiellonian University in Kraków and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan (Poland) to investigate spatial variations in atmospheric fungal spore concentrations.
