A contemporary design, featuring literary classics, designed by University of Worcester student, Amanda Summers, has been chosen as The Hive's new bookmark.

University of Worcester students were invited by staff at The Hive to submit entries to a bookmark design competition earlier in the year. The panel of judges were looking for a fresh contemporary look and feel that celebrated books, reading and libraries. Amanda's strong modern design was considered to appeal to a wide range of age groups and be a fitting representation of a 21st century library.

Laura Worsfold, Business Development Manager said: “We set up the competition as we wanted to commission something bespoke to represent The Hive and to promote more customer interaction via our social media pages. We also wanted to give a University of Worcester student the chance to add to their portfolio of work and to produce their version of what The Hive is all about.

“Amanda’s design is refreshing and attractive and I am sure will be something that customers will want to use and keep. We hope one day it will be a collector’s item and stored in our own archives at the Hive.”

Illustration student Amanda added: “I really enjoyed producing this design for the bookmark. At the time of producing it, I was really interested in traditional paper puppet animation, which I was also developing alongside my illustration studies. I thought of developing this animation work into a still piece of 3D illustration. I used paper cut silhouettes on layered glass and a light box to build the scene. I was really pleased with my results! I will definitely revisit this visual language again in the future as I enter my career in picture book illustration.”
