Karen has been an active educator in schools, local authority advisory services and higher education for many years.  During this time she has enjoyed success in leadership roles ranging from subject-specific development to team responsibility for inspection and significantly over more recent years, through her work associated with internationalisation.  Professional associates have described her leadership style as being based on communication and collaboration alongside the recognition and acknowledgement of individuals’ skills, personal interests and achievements.  Karen’s expertise, combined with the identification of these qualities, has led to teams performing beyond expectations and she has empowered people to pursue their own avenues of development. No more has this been so than with the students at Worcester whereby tutees in her charge have enhanced their university experience and curriculum vitae with some outstanding achievements.  These include peer representation on academic boards, periods spent studying and/or working overseas, involvement in significant charity and local community work and, the receipt of University scholarships for their excellent level of work in their studies.  Karen’s latest project work is concerned with helping students to adapt to life and studying in a university environment and her forthcoming thesis will focus on the socialization of the growing number of students who live at home for some or all of the period of their course.  Her own achievements and these interests are founded in her passionate belief in humanity and that Worcester’s students will be amongst the citizens and change agents of our future society.
