I commenced my position with the University of Worcester in March 2015, after 10 years working in the NHS and the independent sector, providing individual and group based psychological interventions. During this time I worked in different services including, the primary care assessment and treatment team (PCATT) and improving access to psychological therapies (IAPT), in Suffolk, South Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire. I completed my training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy at the University of South Wales.
As a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist I have worked in Primary Care mental health and more recently in an independent psychiatric hospital, specialising in the management and treatment of acute and complex mental health problems. During this time I have developed special interests in chronic physical conditions, learning disabilities, organic degenerative disorders, such as early on-set dementia and Huntington's disease, as well as other types of brain injury. I also specialise in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder, mood disorders, health anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, low self-esteem, obsessive compulsive disorder, binge eating disorder and bulimia. Post qualification I have completed training courses in third wave therapies, including mindfulness.

I have extensive experience of teaching a wide range of subjects, including those required for professional practice. As a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist I recognise the importance of creating different learning opportunities to promote change. Therefore, in the classroom I encourage active participation, through offering students a variety of different approaches to learning, including the use of technology.

I pride myself on introducing evidence-based approaches to my teaching and practice examples to inspire student interest. I am passionate about providing accessible and meaningful learning opportunities, promoting academic enquiry and the advancement of knowledge.
My research interests include supporting staff to work with individuals experiencing severe and enduring mental health difficulties; the factors that influence mental health professionals decision making in in-patient settings; the use of technology to improve psychological well being; the adoption of mindfulness based practices in in-patient settings; veteran mental health; eating disorders and the use of third wave therapies to promote psychological well being.

Other Research Projects:
Using interpretative phenomenological analysis as a methodological approach, I am researching the emotional burden experienced in the role of personal academic tutoring.
Through conducting a scoping review I am exploring the role of mobile technology in improving the physical health outcomes for young people.
Using existing qualitative information I am exploring the transitional issues faced by military service personnel whilst they are actively serving and after they leave the military.
- External Responsibilities
I am a specialist advisor with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) providing specialist advice and input into the regulatory inspection process. I also work as a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist in independent practice.
