Jill Turner joined the University of Worcester in 2003 after a successful career in teaching and managing in schools. Jill had worked as a leading teacher in Mathematics with Worcestershire and had combined the role of lead mentor with a managerial position in a middle school. Having always enjoyed supporting trainee teachers Jill chose Higher Education as a way of contributing to the future workforce. At Worcester Jill led the primary Mathematics team through two very successful Ofsted inspections and has inspired many students to develop their mathematical skills through research and effective teaching. Jill works closely with colleagues in the Research Methods Team to link academic work with the Professional Role of the Teacher.
For three years Jill worked with the University of Oulu in Northern Finland teaching ‘British Mathematical Methods’ as part of their MA international programme. In 2012 she was awarded a scholarship from the University Council for the education of teachers(UCET) which enabled her to travel to the United States to research pedagogies used by student teachers in training.
