Gina Dutton joined the Association for Dementia Studies (ADS) in September 2014. Gina is the management lead for ADS providing operational management for the department as a whole and line management of the education and professional support team. She has more than 14 years’ experience as a senior manager in the NHS and higher education. Gina has an interest in evidence based practice and clinical research and is committed to ensuring that patients and members of the public are able to participate in high quality research as part of the standard of care, if they wish to.
Gina qualified as a radiographer in 1982 and dual qualified as a sonographer in 1987. She worked in the UK and Botswana. She started working in research whilst a sonographer, before moving into cancer research management when the National Cancer Research Network was established and worked at regional and national level. Training and development of others has always been a key priority within her work.

As well as formal qualifications, Gina has studied a wide variety of short courses, in particular taking advantage of Future Learn to complete a number of MOOCs (Mass open online courses), something that she highly recommends to everyone
- Professional experience
Gina Dutton's professional experience
Gina worked for 15 years as a diagnostic radiographer and sonographer in the NHS and overseas, before moving into clinical research.
Most recently she had been a Research Network Manager in the NIHR Cancer Research Network (NCRN), a post that she held for nearly 12 years. The NIHR Clinical Research Network is responsible for supporting researchers and organisations to conduct clinical research in the NHS and providers of NHS services.
Additionally, during this time, Gina was seconded to the national Coordinating Centre for 3 years to work on a number of national projects to improve the delivery of cancer clinical trials and other well design studies in the NHS. This included serving on a number of national committees.
She was a member of the Trial Management Group for the FOCUS4 trial, a molecularly stratified, multi-site randomised trial programme for patients with colorectal cancer.
She is an experienced NHS and university manager with diverse management experience.
