I have class teacher experience in Early Years and I have worked as a Senior Teacher, Head of Department and Head Teacher in Special Schools. In the University Sector I have worked as Senior Lecturer, Principal Lecturer, Head of Special Education and as a Principal Research Fellow in Children’s and Young Peoples’ Palliative Care. Most recently I have pursued my interest in supporting children and families who are experiencing loss and I am committed to helping people of all ages and from all walks of life to develop resilience to sustain them through adverse life events. My Doctoral studies are in the area of supporting families with a life-limited child from the time of diagnosis, to caring for the bereaved family after the child’s death.
Since joining The Early Childhood Team at Worcester in 2009 I have actively sought to encourage students and staff to develop their own learning dispositions and to apply knowledge to practice. I strive to help people achieve their full potential.
I enjoy public speaking and presenting papers at national and international conferences. I have successfully bid for funding to undertake a number of research projects for voluntary organisations, and universities. I have a wide-ranging portfolio of published books, book chapters and refereed journal articles. In 2008 my book ‘Palliative Care for South Asians’ was launched in the House of Lords and in 2012 I was made a Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts in recognition of my work with life-limited children, young people and their families.
I have a twin brother and as children we grew up in very rural parts of England. This instilled in me a love for the natural world and spending as much time as possible outside. I love gardening, walking and trekking and I run every day. I am very much a ‘people person’ and I am committed to encouraging children and achieve their ambitions.
