Claudia Pallett at Jump 4 Joy

Jump 4 Joy is a family run company producing plastic show jumps for amateurs, professionals and competition/training centres. They produce some of the most innovative, safe and practical jumps on the market.†

I am studying business management and decided to take a placement year to gain valuable experience and help strengthen my CV. As I didnít know the exact career route I wanted to follow I felt a placement year would help me decide which areas of business I do / do not want to be involved in.†

My responsibilities covered all the general sales and administration, relating to both UK and international sales. This included taking and processing orders, advising customers, dealing with complaints, organising production, organising dispatch/transport, dealing with problems relating to dispatch and raising invoices.†

Throughout the year I have developed a wide range of skills including working with a wide variety of people in sometimes very stressful situations and dealing with a wide range of customers in an approachable yet efficient manner. I have had to organise my time and prioritise tasks to a greater extent than was previously required at university and in extracurricular activities, and I have built social media pages for the company.

I feel taking on so much responsibility successfully was a big achievement, and I have successfully built strong relationships with both individual customers and our export agents. I have also increased my confidence particularly when dealing with unfamiliar tasks, and I have acquired new skills/improved existing ones as outlined above.
