Overview

Business Analytics helps you understand how organisations use data to make smarter decisions, improve performance and drive innovation.

You'll develop the analytical skills needed to interpret customer, financial, operational and market data, identify trends and solve real-world business challenges while building your knowledge of business, data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital systems. Using industry-standard tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, SQL and Python, you'll learn how organisations turn data into actionable insights.

Through case studies, live projects and practical activities, you'll work on real business scenarios and explore how organisations use data to understand customer behaviour, identify market trends, improve performance and respond to change. You'll gain experience of working alongside both business and computing students, reflecting the collaborative nature of today's workplace.

Optional modules allow you to explore areas such as marketing, entrepreneurship, strategy and digital business, helping you tailor your studies to your career goals. With opportunities for placements, employer projects and paid work experience, you'll graduate with the practical skills, professional experience and confidence needed for careers in business analytics, digital business and data-driven management.

Placements and work experience

There are several ways to gain valuable industry experience during your course, including short-term paid placements, year-long internships and part-time roles with local businesses.

Our dedicated placements team offers one-to-one support throughout the process, helping you find opportunities, prepare applications and build confidence for interviews. You can choose to gain experience locally through our strong employer connections across the region or spend up to 12 months studying abroad.

You can also earn money while developing skills relevant to your degree through the Springboard Programme the Business School's employability and placements scheme. The team works closely with local and regional employers to match students with project-based opportunities that complement their studies.

Many Springboard roles begin as short-term projects and develop into part-time positions that students continue alongside their degree. Recent opportunities have included roles as marketing and events assistants, IT assistants in local schools, and supporting sustainability projects for regional businesses.
