Megan Davies, from Walsall, is now working full time as a teacher, after achieving First Class Honours in her Primary Initial Teacher Education degree.

“I never expected to come to university and achieve a First Class Honours degree,” said the 21-year-old. “I put so much hard work into my course to follow my childhood dreams of becoming a primary teacher and the hard work has paid off. I feel like I’ve made my family proud and I’ve surprised myself in what I can achieve.”

Megan is now working as a Newly Qualified Teacher at a school in Worcester.

“The PITE course gave me the opportunity to work in a challenging educational environment and after five years of mainstream primary teaching I am hoping to work in a pupil referral unit and work alongside children with social, emotional and mental health issues and in deprived areas,” she said.

Talking about the University, she added: “When I first came to an open day (and I came back to three of them!) I felt comfortable walking round and the staff on the PITE course were so inspiring and approachable. I instantly felt at home and was ready to move away and start the next chapter of my life.

“The PITE course at the university has pushed me to try different things, including varied teaching settings, working towards awards such as my silver Worcester Award, and gain certificates in courses that are going to help me with my professional development in my career.”
