Research development will be an important element of the role and opportunities will exist to develop this agenda through effective partnerships with experienced researchers within the institute. In support of this, the University of Worcester is home to the Association for Dementia Studies, which make a national and international contribution to building evidence-based practical ways of working with people living with dementia and their families. In addition, the University of Worcester’s National Centre for Violence is a centre of excellence that makes a significant contribution to knowledge transfer, evidence based policy and practice, and the Mood Disorders Research Group focuses on investigations of bipolar disorder and other related affective and psychotic illnesses.
By providing expert knowledge, the post holder will be expected to teach and lead agreed modules, assess students, supervise undergraduate/postgraduate research studies, and engage in curriculum development. It is essential that the appointee is able to adopt a flexible approach to the subjects they teach.
Shortlisted candidates invited to interview will be asked to deliver a fifteen-minute teaching session (followed by 5 minutes of questions) aimed at third year mental health nursing students entitled; 'thriving, not just surviving as a student mental health nurse’ The Chair of this panel will feedback to the main interview panel.

The post sits within the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, which is one of four departments within the Institute of Health & Society. The Institute offers courses ranging from foundation degrees in various specialities in health and social care, to honours, masters and doctoral level study in a number of disciplines.
The department has over 800 pre-registration nursing students completing degree programmes. The department has an exceptional national reputation for excellence and the appointee will further develop the quality of our provision through strong collaboration with our practice partners. - Main duties
1. To undertake teaching at undergraduate and post graduate level and to a wide range of students.
2. To contribute to the assessment process for students including the setting, marking and moderation of student work, individually or collectively as part of a module team in accordance with quality assurance procedures.
3. To design and develop innovative and inspiring learning materials and assessments.
4. To participate fully in curriculum development work including planning, development and evaluation of courses.
5. To engage in tripartite arrangements with students and mentors as to facilitate effective partnership working and student support in practice.

1. Evidence of teaching nursing at HE level that demonstrates excellence and innovation, including the ability to enthuse, motivate and facilitate student learning and intellectual challenge, using a variety of methods of learning and teaching, including e-learning.
2. Contemporary knowledge of the context of mental health including, policy, research and practice.
3. Evidence of scholarly activity (research and public output commensurate with career stage).
4. Master’s Degree (or at final completion).
5. Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate confidently and clearly with a range of people including students, lecturers, managers, representatives of external organisations and the public, both orally and in writing.
6. Evidence of effective team-working and inter-personal skills and the ability to inspire, influence and motivate others through collaborative working practices.
7. Strong evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.
8. Current NMC registration as a Mental Health Nurse.
9. HE teaching qualification e.g. Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education.

*Newly appointed staff who do not already hold HEA professional recognition or a HE teaching qualification, will be required to achieve this within three years of their appointment to the post, either through completion of the PG Cert Learning and Teaching in HE, or for those with significant experience of teaching in HE, via the University’s accredited CPD scheme conferring Fellowship at the appropriate level.
