We are seeking to appoint a temporary lecturer from a background of professional theatre to contribute to the department from September/October 2017 to end of July 2018, as maternity cover.
We are looking for some-one to make a significant contribution to our new 4 year course – an Integrated Masters in Touring Theatre – as well as the BA Drama & Performance. In particular we are looking for candidates with direct experience in aspects of the following: touring, tour booking, programming, producing, writing funding applications and other funding activities, theatre administration and marketing. Candidates who can also contribute to creative practice, especially in terms of mentoring the development of work for Edinburgh Fringe Festival and/or socially engaged performance would be especially welcome.
Drama & Performance at Worcester has a strong student focus and its ethos is founded upon the teaching of theory through practice and the application of learning through practice. We have strong and continually developing professional links and a long- established tradition of embedding student employability within teaching and learning.

Drama & Performance at Worcester is a longstanding and continuously popular area of academic provision, led by the Department of Theatre & Film in the Institute of Creative Arts. The Department’s portfolio of undergraduate courses comprises Drama & Performance, Film Studies, Film Production, Animation and Screenwriting. The new 4 year Integrated Masters in Touring Theatre is a unique new development, which started in September 2016. The MTheatre Touring Theatre course combines teaching of the practical and theoretical skills and knowledge needed to creating high quality original performance, with the technical, organisational and business skills required to set up as an independent theatre company or solo practitioner. Last year the first production that arose from the course was accepted into the prestigious National Student Drama Festival (Hull, April 2017).
Specialist teaching resources available to Drama, Performance & Film include two drama studios with up to date intelligent lighting, and sound and video facilities. In addition, certain specific drama modules are programmed at the dance studio at Riverside, the Studio at The Hive, and have use of the MAC and PC computer studios, digital editing suites, sound studio and a video studio that is linked to the drama studio. The department also has a touring rig of lights, sound etc and several productions go out on tour to local and regional venues. One of the MTheatre Touring Theatre productions will go to Edinburgh Festival in summer 2018.
There is an established culture of performance and practice-led and academic research in the department, as well as thriving links with relevant professional organisations and individuals.
- Main duties
1. To produce high quality and inspirational teaching in various aspects of touring theatre – performance practice, administration, production, programming, tour booking, funding applications, marketing and audience development etc.
2. To contribute to teaching and curriculum and other developments in Drama & Performance designed to grow the national and international reputation and standing of the course and support student recruitment.
3. To offer personal and academic tutoring which will involve supporting specific tutees through group and one-to-one tutor meetings throughout the year.
4. To complete administrative duties for the Department and Institute, as required by the line manager, including attendance at Subject, Divisional, Institute and University committees and meetings.
5. To participate in learning and teaching developments and income-generating activities as appropriate and agreed by the line manager.
6. To complete activities associated with an academic post, including preparation of teaching and support materials, student tutorials, marking, attendance at committees and meetings, staff development, interviewing, open days and schools visits, international activities, widening participation and outreach activities, and day and summer schools, as appropriate and agreed with the line manager.

Please provide evidence of how you meet each of the essential criteria.
1. Significant recent experience of professional touring theatre as a performer, director, producer, programmer or theatre/venue manager.
2. Experience of delivering high-quality, inspirational theatre-related activities with young people.
3. Experience of creating theatre/performance either for festival contexts (e.g. Edinburgh) or aimed at ‘hard-to-reach’ communities or audiences.
4. Experience of collaborating with external venues and communities/partner organisations on performance based projects.
5. Experience of arts administration e.g. marketing, programming, tour booking, fundraising etc.
6. A first degree, or equivalent, in drama or theatre (or closely related subject).
7. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
1. Experience of teaching drama and performance at HE level in a University.
2. Evidence of engagement with higher degree study or continuing professional practice in the area of drama/performance.
