Graduate Ambassador- International Office (x3 positions) - Open to University of Worcester graduates only (2016/17)

The team is based in the Jenny Lind building in the city centre.

The University has an established profile in Europe and student numbers have grown steadily over the last five years and now comprise 7% of our overall student population. The University’s footprint is also growing in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Nigeria, Turkey and China.

The work of the department brings it into close contact with staff across all levels, both within the organisation and outside. There is a strong culture of teamwork and supporting each other in times of pressure. The department operates a time off in lieu system.

As an International Graduate Ambassador you will play a vital role in the University’s interaction with a range of student audiences in an increasingly competitive market. The role will not only enhance the Institution’s existing agent, partner and school liaison activity but will also support inbound activity at both school and applicant level as well as providing assistance, encouragement and information to applicants throughout the recruitment cycle.

The role primarily involves using email, social media, telephone campaigns, webinars, and on occasion attending HE Fairs in the UK and possibly overseas. You will join an enthusiastic and dynamic team who currently engage with over 2,000 prospective students per year from over 60 countries in the world. You will also gain knowledge and experience in international admissions and undertake administrative tasks in order to support the International Office activities and provide accurate information to prospective international students.

This position will assist the Regional Managers and the International Office Manager in recruitment, marketing and administration. Specifically, the purpose is to

• Increase international applications to the university through a focused programme of conversion activities across all channels (digital, agents, schools, partners and UWIC) and the provision of administrative support
• Raise the profile of the University of Worcester internationally including the use of digital marketing to maximize the visibility of the University.
• Make a significant contribution to the achievement of international student recruitment targets through a proactive and can-do approach to work.
• Promote the University of Worcester and its relevant programmes, to a wider audience through a professional presence at recruitment events.

This is a challenging and rewarding role and will be well suited to a motivated and ambitious graduate of the University. You’ll be adept at working with people, have exceptional communication and presentation skills and an ability to reflect the friendly and open culture of the University.

You’ll bring first-hand experience of higher education as a recent graduate of this University and will need an enthusiastic flair with an ability to understand the concerns and questions of future students. This role will provide you with an ideal first step into a professional working environment and will help to build and develop your skills.

You’ll also receive an initial 4-week intensive training programme followed by ongoing training and development opportunities and work alongside experienced members of the international team.

Main duties

Main duties

1. To deliver a targeted programme of conversion activities with agents, schools and partners including, but not limited to, presentations to a variety of audiences, attendance at events and leading workshops. This may involve some UK travel and occasional travel overseas.

2. To inspire the ‘next generation’ of Worcester students, articulating the benefits of both higher education in general and the University of Worcester in particular. This will be done through a truthful and energetic account of life as a University of Worcester student balanced with informed and insightful knowledge about the University international application process.

3. To support campus tours to show prospective international students facilities of the University and demonstrate the benefits of studying here.

4. To professionally represent the University of Worcester in all communications with students and partners.

5. To provide a point of contact, information and proactive support to Worcester applicants and agents as they move through the recruitment cycle. This will be delivered in a variety of ways including face to face, email, telephone and on-line through blogs and social media.

6. To work closely with admissions to facilitate a smooth application process including processing direct applications, chasing for documents from students and helping asses qualifications and scholarships.

7. To update the international recruitment team’s CRM system. This will include entering enquirer and applicant data, and analysing data to evaluate the effectiveness of online and offline events.

8. To support Regional Managers on digital campaigns to increase conversion from enquiries to application and from application to enrolment.

9. To attend open events and other events as required, sometimes outside of core working hours.

10. To support the Office Manager with general administration duties, for example: processing contracts, collateral management, freight, stationery orders etc.

Essential Criteria

1. Graduating from the University of Worcester in any subject in 2016/7 with an upper second (2:1) or above degree classification.

2. Demonstrable understanding of the UK Higher Education environment.

3. Experience and knowledge of EU/international student pathways

4. Excellent communication and presentation skills (oral and written), including the ability to communicate engagingly on multiple media (email, web-chat, social media, telephone), answer questions and maintain a professional demeanour.

5. High quality organisational and administration skills with the ability to manage a busy and fluctuating workload and attention to details.

6. Proven ability to use initiative and take a proactive approach to solving problems.

7. Capability to work as part of a team, with willingness to assist in times of pressure and periodically undertake other duties as required.

8. High quality interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy and sensitivity.

9. Ability to travel nationally and internationally if requested.

10. Good IT skills and experience of using Microsoft Office.

11. A flexible and adaptable approach to working practices and availability to work weekends/evenings.
