The post holder will work as part of a team to provide advice and guidance to staff and students on the use of a range of technologies to support learning and teaching including the Blackboard VLE, Pebblepad e-portfolio and Turnitin Plagiarism detection tool.

The Learning and Teaching Technology Unit sits within the wider Library Services department and plays a key role in driving forward the University Technology Enhanced Learning Strategy and developing staff and student digital capabilities in collaboration with other university departments. The Library Services management team consists of the University Librarian and section Team Leaders, including the Head of LTTU.

The Blackboard Virtual Learning Environment is a core technology used to support learning and teaching and is widely used across the University and in partner institutions off campus. The team provide advice, guidance, training and administration in the use of Blackboard and other key learning technologies.

The University has made a strategic decision to implement Electronic Management of Assessment using Blackboard and Turnitin throughout the University. This is a key project the team are currently working on and the role will involve supporting academic staff in the transition to this new approach to assessment, marking and feedback practice.

The team is also involved in a number of projects to trial and develop new approaches to blended and distributed learning so variety and innovation are key elements of the role.

Main duties

Main duties

1. To promote, support and develop the use of technology to enhance learning and teaching across the University in line with strategic priorities.

2. To create strong working relationships with teaching staff, providing advice and guidance on using the various systems supported by the team and promoting best practice in the use of TEL.

3. To design and deliver a range of training opportunities for staff and students including face-to-face workshops, online tutorials and web based resources.

4. To work collaboratively with teaching and support staff, design and develop online learning resources such as video material, screencasts and interactive web-based resources.

5. To proactively engage in dialogue with Institutes, including advocating the teamís services and gathering feedback, e.g. through attendance at appropriate committees

6. To work as part of a team, take a creative approach to problem-solving and offer a range of solutions to questions around design and delivery of technology enhanced learning.

7. To actively contribute to team projects such as electronic management of assessment and support colleagues in the delivery of training and development of support materials.

8. To liaise with colleagues across other departments to ensure all support services are kept up to date on TEL related developments.

9. To proactively maintain professional expertise, carry out research and participate in the wider TEL community to keep up to date with developments across the sector.

Essential Criteria

1. Undergraduate degree in technology, media or education related subject.

2. Good knowledge and understanding of a range of technologies to support learning and teaching including VLEs, e-portfolios, plagiarism detection platforms and content authoring software.

3. A good understanding of current developments in Learning and Teaching especially regarding the use of technology

4. Commitment to taking a personal responsibility for providing high quality services

5. Ability to communicate enthusiastically and effectively both orally and in writing, and to adapt the communication style to suit a range of audiences.

6. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a wide range of people from across the University and externally.

7. Ability to quickly learn new technologies and evaluate their potential in terms of application to learning and teaching.

8. Organised and effective with the ability to work autonomously and use initiative.

9. Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to shared goals and objectives.

Desirable Criteria

1. Teaching or training qualification.

2. Experience of using authoring software to produce learning resources.
