HR Manager (Recruitment)

Taking a lead role in managing recruitment and selection activity, you will develop sourcing and selection strategies to ensure the University attracts and retains the best talent.

You will drive effective, innovative processes and develop appropriate technology solutions to enhance the candidate experience. You will work closely with the HR Business Partners on workforce planning as well as manage and guide the recruitment team.

Main duties

  • Review and develop recruitment policy and procedures to support the attraction of high quality candidates for the University.

  • Develop proactive recruitment strategies and policies, and drive efficiency and innovation using technology led solutions where appropriate.

  • Take the lead role in the University’s job evaluation process, ensuring a consistency of approach.

  • Work with recruiting managers on the design and scope of roles, defining job descriptions and person specifications.

  • Work with the wider HR team to develop the employer brand and raise the profile of the University.

  • Manage and support the HR Administrators (Recruitment), offering advice and guidance to develop skills and knowledge across the team.

Person specification

Person specification

  • CIPD qualified (Level 7) with at least 2 years’ experience of a HR role in a large organisation or experience gained as part of an in-house recruitment team supporting a range of internal teams.

  • Proven experience of developing innovative recruitment and selection processes to deliver an excellent candidate experience.

  • Experience of utilising social media, other marketing methods and technology to attract high quality candidates.

  • A good understanding of UK employment law, legislation and recruitment best practice including equality, diversity, data protection, GDPR and UKVI processes.

  • A proactive, confident mind-set and the ability to identify opportunity and influence others.

  • Experience of managing and coaching others.


Although previous experience in the higher education sector is desirable and not a pre-requisite, s/he must be able to demonstrate commitment to the values of higher education.
