I enjoy teaching the principles of social work which include, empowerment, autonomy, self-determination, and social justice. My aim is to ensure students acquire a critical understanding of these principles and how they are applied in practice. This will enable them to use the principles to inform their future practice in any of the various fields of social work.

Teaching Interests
My teaching interest in anti-oppressive practice is integral to all the modules I teach. These are ‘Context of Practice’, and ‘Managing Risk in Social Work Practice’, on the BA (Hons) course; ‘Fundamentals of Practice’, and ‘Assessment and Safeguarding’ on the MA course.
I also supervise student dissertations on both courses. Identifying the oppressions experienced by adults and children at risk is essential for social workers so they can both support people experiencing oppressions and also practise anti-oppressively.
