Having spent a great many years working with young people and communities, I have on far too many occasions, witnessed young people being marginalised and undervalued. I believe that as a society we have both a responsibility and duty, to support young people in order for them to achieve their aspirations, hopes and dreams. As a result of this, I am both fortunate and privileged to work and support the next generation of skilled professionals who choose to work with young people within community settings. It gives me the opportunity to enable them to develop their expertise, knowledge and skills and equally to enjoy the experience higher education offers.

Teaching & Research

Teaching Interests

My teaching interests are fundamentally underpinned by equality and social justice. I deliver the module on Equalities and Diversity. I feel very strongly that we all have a moral duty to challenge discrimination, oppression and exploitation. I am committed to eradiating FGM and deliver awareness sessions on the issue. I am passionate about the plight of refugees and the need to support unaccompanied young people.

The student experience is a priority for me and through engaging them in collaborative work, we can offer a more seamless and shared learning experience, an example of this is the delivery of the bystanders programme which addresses gender based violence in UK Universities.

Research Interests

I am currently studying for a PhD; and my area of research is focused on gender and gendered roles.
