Hazel worked for 23 years in the NHS as a Speech and Language Therapist, specialising in complex difficulties, dysphagia (feeding and swallowing difficulties), neuro-developmental difficulties and Alternative and Augmentative Communication. She worked predominantly in a Nursery Assessment Unit and in Special Schools, but also supported colleagues and worked within CAHMS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service). After leaving the NHS, Hazel worked with young adults with Acquired Brain Injury within Further Education, leaving this post to undertake a PhD studentship investigating the implementation of Education and Health Care Plans, which she is due to complete in 2019.

Hazel is passionate about maximising children and young people’s potential. Her background in communication and multi-disciplinary working informs her teaching and research.  She also has a significant interest in behaviour and mental health.
