Gemma is a PhD student in the Moods Disorder Research Group at the University of Worcester. Her main research interests surround sedentary behaviour and physical activity in bipolar disorder.

Gemma’s PhD research concerns exploring the interrelationships of sedentary behaviour and physical activity with the fluctuating mood states of people with bipolar disorder. She is conducting a mixed methods study to try to identify these relationships and ultimately aims to determine whether mood predicts a change in sedentary behaviour and/or physical activity, or if a change in either sedentary behaviour or physical activity can predict a change in mood.

Gemma is very grateful to The Bipolar Disorder Research Network for funding the research equipment required to measure sedentary behaviour as part of her PhD.

Gemma’s supervisors are: Professor Derek Peters, Professor Lisa Jones and Professor Eleanor Bradley.

Gemma is a graduate member of the British Psychological Society and is completing her PhD research as a member of the Bipolar Disorder Research Network.
