It is a finalist at the Celebrating Enterprise 2016 Awards for Enterprise Learning Provider of the Year.

Hosted by sector skills body for enterprise and enterprise support SFEDI and the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (IOEE), the awards recognise and celebrate the contribution of learners, educators, entrepreneurs, mentors and policy-shapers to the UK's enterprise and skills.

Running in one of the five awards categories, the University of Worcester will be up against London South Bank University and Ignition Autos Training.

Representatives from the University will join small businesses and representatives from business organisations from across the UK as well as leading figures from the worlds of enterprise, learning and skills at the awards ceremony at the House of Lords on Thursday, November 10.

This follows the University's recent praise from the IOEE, which granted it Centre of Excellence status.

It was one of only a handful of education establishments in the country to be awarded this honour.

Dr David Bozward, Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at the University of Worcester, said: "Over the last few years we have created a world class environment for students, staff and local entrepreneurs which has provided a number of high growth start-ups.

"This could only be done by working with external partners in developing a practical working relationship for students to engage with the community rather than just the classroom.

"Our innovative teaching solutions ensure an inclusive environment for a wide ranging group of students.

"The University of Worcester has a tradition of best practice in education and it's fantastic that we are now also getting recognition for developing enterprise and entrepreneurship education."

Ruth Lowbridge MBE, Executive Chair of the SFEDI Group, said:

"All of those shortlisted have proven themselves to be exemplary in their field and have been handpicked from a selection of very high calibre nominees across all categories. Whoever goes on to receive the ultimate accolade of winning each award, every one of the finalists should be very proud indeed.

"The Celebrating Enterprise Awards is our most significant event of the year, celebrating the achievements of the most enterprising individuals and organisations across both across the UK and internationally."
