The Midlands Business Awards have been celebrating the best in enterprise and innovation throughout the region since 2007. The shortlisting follows a period of sustained success and dynamic development in supporting business and enterprise through the activities of the University's Business School.

Jo Murphy, Course Leader for the BA in Entrepreneurship at Worcester, said: "We are thrilled to have made the final for University of the Year. It's valuable for us to have our work recognised in this way, but really it has all come about as a result of the hard work that we have undertaken with our partners to support entrepreneurship within the region, both in terms of our own students, and in terms of the business community more widely."

"Universities are engines of opportunity for the whole community," Jo added. "Through our Business Incubator and Media Lab, along with community initiatives like our schools enterprise competition and the Enterprising Worcestershire Start-up Boot Camps for young people, we want to play our part in helping Worcester's vibrant business community to flourish. Ultimately, a dynamic and thriving local business community is good for Worcestershire and it is good for our students."

Second year Entrepreneurship student, Marie Jenkins, was part of a three-person delegation that pitched the University's case to the awards panel, along with Jo and Tim Maxfield, Director of External Engagement at the Worcester Business School.

"It's fantastic that the University of Worcester has been shortlisted for University of the Year," Marie said. "It's well deserved. The support and learning I have gained as a new business owner of 'Advance your Wellbeing' has been amazing. I am proud to support the University and the Midlands Business Awards in celebrating what makes the Midlands the best place to start your new business."

The Midland Business Awards 2018 will be presented at a gala dinner on February 23rd, in Leicester.

The University of Worcester is one of only a handful of educational institutions to enjoy flagship status as a Centre of Excellence for entrepreneurship, accredited by the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs.
