Financial support

Students at Worcester are fully eligible for the UK Government's student grant, fee waiver and loan support package.

Our growing scholarship and fee waiver programme offers eligible students the opportunity to earn a scholarship/prize or fee waiver for every year of their studies.

Year One

Academic Achievement Fee Waivers

The University of Worcester offers a £1,000 first year fee waiver to all applicants who achieve three Distinctions in BTEC, AAB or above at A Level or the equivalent qualification.

National Scholarship Fee Waiver

The National Scholarship Programme has been introduced by the UK Government to lower the fees for students from the lowest income households to help their entry into Higher Education.

It is funded equally by the University and Government. Two hundred National Scholarships are available at Worcester. Each is a fee waiver of £3,000, or a pro rata amount in the case of part-time students, for the first year of study.

National Scholarships are awarded on a rigorously means tested basis, to those students from the lowest income households.

See the Scholarships and Fee Waivers page for more detailed information.

Year Two

Academic Scholarships

Based solely on academic performance in the first full year of study, the University awards up to 100 scholarships of £1,000 to eligible, high achieving undergraduate students. These scholarships have been funded by a generous philanthropic donation from the Clive Richards Charity.

Bosch Scholarships

Four £2,500 Bosch Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis at the end of Year One to students studying business, computing and related subjects. These scholarships will include the opportunity to take a one year paid work placement with the Worcester Bosch Group.

See the Scholarships and Fee Waivers page for more detailed information.

Year Three

Academic Scholarships

Based solely on academic performance in the second full year of study, the University awards up to 100 scholarships of £1,000 each to eligible high-achieving undergraduate students. These scholarships are available thanks to generous gifts made to the University by alumni, Fellows, philanthropists and friends of the University, and university fund-raising initiatives.

Additional University Scholarships

Students can also apply for scholarship funding to help with outstanding voluntary projects or to pursue high-level achievement in the arts, sport or other fields.

See the Scholarships and Fee Waivers page for more detailed information.

Additional financial support

Tuition fee loans

The tuition fee loan covers your annual tuition fees of £8,100. The Student Loans Company pays this, on your behalf, directly to the University of Worcester for each year of your study. The loan will be reduced by any fee waiver you have been awarded.

Maintenance loans

You can also apply for a maintenance loan for day-to-day living expenses such as accommodation and food. This is also administered by the Student Loans Company and will be paid into your bank account at the start of term, once you've registered on your course. The current maximum you can borrow is £5,500 if you live away from home and £4,375 if you live at home. The exact amount you can borrow depends on a number of factors, such as your household income and what help you're eligible for with a maintenance grant.

You can learn more about student loans from the Directgov Student Loans website.

Maintenance grants

Full-time students may also apply for a maintenance grant to help with living costs.

Maintenance grants don't have to be repaid. The maximum you can get is £3,250 a year, available to those whose household income is less than £25,000. Varying amounts are awarded to students who household income (including that of parents) is less than £42,600 a year.

To see how much maintenance grant you will be eligible for, please visit the Student Finance calculator.

The grant is paid in three instalments along with your Maintenance Loan. Further information can be found on the Directgov Maintenance Grant web pages.

Some special support grants are available for families on income support or housing benefit. Apply online at the same time as you are applying for loans.

Part-time students

Loans for tuition fees are available to eligible part-time undergraduate degree students who complete a minimum of 25% of the full-time course load per year (30 credits or more).

International students

EU students

EU students are eligible for the Tuition Fee Loan.

This is offered by the UK government via the Student Loans Company to all EU and home undergraduate students, giving you the opportunity to borrow any amount up to the full cost of your tuition fees.

International students

If you are an international student, you will not be eligible for any financial assistance from the UK Government. You will need to apply for this kind of financial help in your home country. You may wish to consider applying for a scholarship.
