Academic Tutoring

Informed, intellectual discussion with academic staff and fellow students lies at the heart of the University learning experience. Much of this will take place in your modules and units of study. However it is important and valuable to take an overview of your academic development at regular points throughout your study. Every new undergraduate student is provided with an appointed Academic Tutor to help you do this.

Your Academic Tutor is one of your key regular points of contact with the University. Normally your Academic Tutor will be one of the people teaching on your course and will remain with you throughout your undergraduate studies. This system provides continuity for you, as you will get to know one member of academic staff (and group of students) with whom you can discuss your progress while at University.

Your Academic Tutor will support your throughout your course in many different ways.

You will be assigned an Academic Tutor at the beginning of your course. You will normally meet your Academic Tutor in welcome week or, at the latest, within the first three weeks of the start of the academic year. There will be a minimum of four meetings with your Academic Tutor during your first year, either as a tutorial group or on an individual basis.

The University provides the best possible support we can to all of our students and we take an active interest in your progress and needs. Not many people arrive at university fully equipped and able to deal with university life and study from the outset. Most students, no matter their age, find that they need some academic assistance and guidance at some point during their studies. Your Academic Tutor is a first point of contact for such support.
