Teacher Training

Some full-time eligible home and EU students on a postgraduate course leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), e.g. a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), may receive receive a tax-free Training Bursary through their University. Students training to teach Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, and Maths may be eligible for a £9,000 Training Bursary award, and those training to teach Biology, Combined/General Science, and Modern Foreign Languages may be eligible for a £6,000 Training Bursary award. All other postraduate trainees teachers will not be eligible for an award.

Tuition fees for PGCE courses starting from September 2011 are £3,375 pa. Tuition Fee Loans for home and EU students are available so that money for fees does not have to be found up-front.  PGCE students are also eligible for Maintenance Grants of up to £2,906 pa, the final amount awarded will depend on household income. Students in receipt of the full Maintenance Grant are eligible to receive a bursary of £338 pa from the University of Worcester paid in three monthly instalments from December.

Home students may also apply to Student Finance England for a Maintenance Loan, Childcare Grant, Disabled Students’ Allowance and so on. Help may also be available from the University’s Access to Learning Fund.
