Full-time eligible home and EU students on a postgraduate course leading to qualified teacher status e.g. a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), will receive a tax-free Training Bursary through their university. Students studying to teach at primary level will receive a bursary of £4000 and those training to teach at secondary level will receive £6000.The bursary is increased to £9,000 a year for those intending to teach secondary mathematics, science, ICT, modern languages, RE, music, or design and technology.
Tuition fees for PGCE courses starting from September 2009 are £3,225 pa. Tuition fee loans for home and EU students are available so that money for fees does not have to be found up-front. PGCE students are also eligible for Maintenance Grants of up to £2,906 pa, the first £1,106 of which is not means-tested. Students in receipt of the full maintenance grant are eligible to receive a bursary of £319 pa from the University of Worcester paid in three monthly instalments from December.
Home students may also apply to Student Finance England for a maintenance loan, childcare grant, disabled students’ allowance and so on, help may also be available from the University’s Access to Learning Fund.
