For the academic year 2008/09, tuition fees for all PGCE students at the University of Worcester will be £3,145. Students in receipt of a full maintenance grant will receive a £310 bursary. PGCE students are eligible to apply for a Maintenance Grant of £2,835, of which the first £1,260 is available to all and the remaining £1,575 is dependent on household income.
Financial Support for Trainee Teachers Help with tuition fees is generally available to home students or European Union nationals (in the form of a loan) on postgraduate courses leading to qualified teacher status. Eligible home stuents are also eligible for maintenance loans and grants, help with childcare and so on, through their Local Authority.
Under current government legislation, all home and EU students who apply and are accepted onto the primary PGCE course here at the University of Worcester are also eligible to receive a £4,000 training salary, secondary PGCE would receive £6000 pa and the training bursary for secondary shortage subject PGCE is £9000. This will be paid in 10 monthly instalments directly into your bank account and is part of a government initiative to attract more trainee teachers. Teacher training bursaries are paid through the university.
If you complete a PGCE in Secondary Education and are a home or EU student then you may also be entitled to a further bursary once you have successfully completed your Newly Qualified Teacher year in education. The criteria for this bursary is that you have been trained in and are teaching a shortage subject.
