Worcester Life
The City of Worcester
On the banks of the beautiful River Severn, Worcester combines a fascinating heritage with an energetic modern feel. A friendly, welcoming city with a great deal to offer its thriving student community, it’s one place you’ll love exploring.
Worcester has some great stories to tell. Built around a magnificent 11th century cathedral, it became a key battleground in the English Civil War. Traces of the fascinating medieval past are still visible, blending into the landscape of a forward-looking city.
The University has its main campus in the St John’s area of Worcester. Our brand new site is in the heart of the city, but even now all of Worcester’s attractions are just a few minutes’ walk from the lecture theatre.
A city that’s always evolving
Worcester itself is continually growing and evolving, with the University always playing its part. Close to the University, the city’s waterfront is being given a major facelift, creating beautiful tree-lined walkways running right past the cathedral.
Even more on your doorstep…
Worcester’s excellent public transport system, combined with its constantly expanding cycle and pedestrian routes, mean that you won’t need a car to get around. The city centre is an easy 15-minute walk from our St John’s campus, but, for days when even that seems too far, there is a bus stop on campus.
Worcester’s location in the heart of England means there are countless other sights within easy reach. The nearby Malvern Hills and Wyre Forest are breathtaking examples of the English countryside. Meanwhile, it’s just a short trip to Stratford-upon-Avon to visit Shakespeare’s birthplace and catch the Royal Shakespeare Company in action.
If you fancy exploring a bigger city, Birmingham’s only a short train ride away, and you can be in London in just a couple of hours.
