Department for Education

The Department works to enable all children and young people to reach their full potential and offers a programme of research to inform policy. Details of research contracts currently available can be found here. 

Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

DEFRA fund a large number of research projects every year. It does this in a number of ways, including through open competitions details of which can be found here.

Department of Health

The Department funds programmes of research in the NHS through the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). The NIHR programmes fund a broad range of health and social care research and assist with how the research is applied in the NHS across all the healthcare sectors. In addition, the Department funds research through its Policy Research Programme to provide an effective evidence base for DoH policy-making. All calls for research proposals from the Department of Health and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) programmes are posted here. The Research Design Service can provide design and methodological support to health and social care researchers across England to develop grant applications to the NIHR and other national peer-reviewed funding programmes.

Department for International Development

DFID manages Britain's aid to poor countries and works to get rid of extreme poverty. DFID funds many organisations across the globe who are working to end poverty through open competition, including HEIs, in particular through DELPHE (Development Partnerships in Higher Education) which is run through the British Council.
