Investors in People

Investors in People

The University will be undertaking an Investors In People assessment from 17th to 19th October 2011 for the sixth time in a row since 1996 when  we became the first Higher Education institution in the UK to gain IiP recognition. We have been assessed at three-yearly intervals since then.

IiP (Investors in People) is an accreditation process which assesses, through the IiP Framework, whether an organisation is

  • getting its strategy right
  • enhancing employee engagement
  • improving management effectiveness and
  • evaluating what's working best so it can continuously improve itsperformance.

The IiP on-site visit is used to judge whether we do what we say we do. It's as simple as that.

The process of striving for IiP recognition has had and continues to have a sigificant impact on the University of Worcester at both strategic and operational levels. Amongst other things it has led to the introduction of and revisions to the Appraisal Scheme, the Staff Development Policy, the Mentoring procedure for all staff and improved communication systems within the university. It ensures regular Staff Induction programmes and provides a wide-ranging portfolio of training and development activities aimed at all groups of staff. It is also linked to the various academic and support staff promotions and pay schemes we have introduced over the last few years.

If the Assessor agrees that the university meets the Standard we retain our IiP status for the following three years but we do not receive any additional funding - the "investor" in this case is the university.

The Assessor will choose about 10% of UoW staff on a random basis to interview. The assessor (not the university) will choose the sample to reflect the composition of the university’s workforce by age, gender, length of service, role et c. (Information given to IiP for this process does not include names.) The interviews last 30 – 45 minutes and are completely confidential.   If you are chosen for interview, you will be given a few days’ notice and you can book a place to suit your diary on a shared Excel file on the o:drive. The interviews generally last 30 minutes.   If you want to know more about the Investors in People Framework you can go to their website http://www.investorsinpeople.co.uk/Facts/Framework/Pages/PlanDoReview.aspx
