Youth & Community Services BA (Hons)
Validated by the National Youth Agency and conferring nationally qualified youth worker status, this course provides a broad context for the study of young people's services.
This course will provide you with the opportunity to study for an Honours degree while developing a strong professional discipline and identity. It is designed for those already working with young people who require a JNC - a professional youth work qualification to enhance future career prospects.
This course provides a broad context for the study of young people services whilist enabling you to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes essential for effective youth work practice.
The course builds on the strength and diversity of current service provision to prepare you for an increasingly complex and continually changing work environment. It is validated by the National Youth Agency and recognised by the Joint Negotiating Committee for Youth and Community Workers as conferring nationally qualified youth worker status.
You will develop an appreciation of the needs, rights and aspirations of young people, while learning to assess and understand them.

Three year full-time or five year part-time route available
Supervised work-based learningf or 25% of the course
Taught aspects of the course are confined to a single day per week, enabling employed students to undertake study on a day-release basis

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview, and will be expected to demonstrate that they have an understanding of the nature of work with young people. Candidates will be expected to have experience of working with young people in a paid or voluntary capacity

Employability
With increasing emphasis on multidisciplinary and multi-agency service delivery to young people there is growing demand for professional youth work practitioners across a wide variety of settings both within the statutory and voluntary sector.
A professional youth worker's skills, knowledge and experience are valued in a wide range of service contexts and consequently you could follow a career in youth work, youth justice work, youth participation, children's rights and advocacy work, advice and guidance work and work within a wide range of young people support services notably housing support, substance misuse services and education support.
It is also an ideal base for postgraduate study.
