INSTRUCTIONS FOR STAFF WANTING TO RECEIVE INTER LIBRARY ARTICLES VIA EMAIL (SECURE ELECTRONIC DELIVERY)

Journal articles requested through the Inter Library Requests service can be delivered direct from the British Library, as a pdf file, to a member of staff’s email address.  You will need to read the following instructions before we can process any requests for this service.  (This service is open to staff and full-time post-graduates only at the moment.)

  • You need to download a File Open Plug-in onto your PC. Go to http://fileopen.bl.uk Choose "Click here to download the plugin" Click on the install button.
  • Make sure you can open the British Library test document.  Go back to http://fileopen.bl.uk Click to download a test document.  You should receive a message saying, "Congratulations. You have successfully downloaded..."
  • Please email us at ill@worc.ac.uk when the File Open Plug-in is successfully installed and you are ready to receive electronically delivered articles from the British Library.
  • When you receive an article in your email application (it will be from 'archie@bl.uk'), you must open the document within 14 days of delivery. After this time it will become void. Follow the instructions in the email to open the document. Please be aware that you are only allowed to access it once, for copyright reasons, so please print it off the first time you access it. If you attempt to open it a second time, the link will not work.

We hope this explains the process fully. If there are any problems at all, please don't hesitate to contact us.  You will still need to fill in a yellow inter library article request form for each request.  Please write “electronic delivery” at the top of the form, and make sure that your email address is clear.  Please note that we may choose to order a paper copy from another supplier at our discretion (for example, if this is available at a cheaper price).
