Digital Recording

Digital Recording

ILS have recently undertaken a small trial recording lectures and then saving them as a MP3 sound file (the same format used to store songs on an iPod) and then making it available to students using a shared resource such as webCT.

The intention is to offer the option for any lecture to be recorded as a “podcast”, which will be available for students to download to their PCs or MP3 players to listen again, and take notes from the lecture at their own pace.

We are very keen to see how this works on larger scale and would appreciate volunteers to start using this as another means of providing teaching resources to students. We have MP3 recorders for you to borrow and will help you upload the material so students can access it. You may also be doing this already, if so I would be very interested in gaining your feedback.

If you want further information or wish to buy a recorder through you’re department please put in request in via the customer portal and we will send you the details.

Booking

There are two possible ways to book, depending on your requirements:

  • If you just want to book a voice recorder for a single lecture, then you can use the Resources Online booking system. Go to the staff interface of the catalogue (http://193.62.51.218/TalisPrism/?interface=stafflogin&newsession=true) and do a keyword search for digital voice recorder. Click the Request button next to the title, log in with your library details and choose the option to place a booking. If you follow the onscreen instructions, you will be able to see availability and place a booking for a single day’s slot from here by choosing the list booking slots option.
  • If you want to book a recorder for more than one slot, please send the details of which days you would like to p.williams@worc.ac.uk.
  • Please note that you do need to book in advance to use the digital voice recorders. You’ll also need your staff card when you come into Peirson to collect the equipment so that we can issue it to you. Bookings are for a single day (unless otherwise agreed).
