You said… “we want more key texts to be easily available”
- We are buying many more key texts as e-books to increase the number and range of titles available to you.
- Waterstones are stocking many key texts at discount prices.
You said… “we need more computers in the library”
- In September 2009 there were 120 computers in the library.
- There are now 196 new computers in Peirson
- Plus 36 netbooks that can be loaned for use anywhere on campus.
You said …. “Nursing and health students have difficulty accessing CINAHL and BNI
- We've increased the number of concurrent log-ons - now 20 people can use these resources at the same time
You said… “we need more power sockets for our laptops.”
- In September 2009 there were 41 sockets available in Peirson.
- Now there are 120.
You said… "Please stop students using Facebook and other social networking sites"
"And please stop students locking down computers and leaving them"
- Many students use social networking as part of their studies. We hope that having increased the number of computers so significantly this will cease to be an issue. We will keep it under review throughout the year.
- We will take a more proactive role in preventing students leaving locked-down computers at busy times.
You said… “We want more quiet spaces ”
- The first floor has been reconfigured to reduce the noise and encourage people to work more quietly. No food or talking on mobiles will be allowed on the first floor and more space has been designated for individual study.
- Library staff will be taking a more active role in promoting better behaviour.
- Social learning spaces will continue to be available.
You said… “The library is too hot.”
- We are aware that this is a problem and have installed blinds and IV film to reduce the glare and temperature from the windows.
- We are working with mechanical and electrical engineers to try to make further improvements. Please bear with us.
You said… “We would like the library to be open at weekends in the summer”
- This year we opened on Saturday morning throughout the summer.
You said… “We want more study spaces.”
- The library is not just what you find in Peirson. The wireless network means that you can study anywhere you want, using the ever increasing e-resources.
- New for 2010 - a new social learning space in the Charles Hastings building on the City Campus
- And coming in 2011 .... Riverside, a stunning study area overlooking the river.
