Tutorials
The following tutorials can help you to search key databases in Science, as well as use networking tools on the Web to help keep you up-to-date.
Academic Search Complete Tutorial (Updated June 2009): This video, presented by Library Systems Manager Darren Taylor, will show you how to search one of our most popular full text databases, Academic Search Complete.
Using Delicious to manage and share your bookmarks (created 2008, reviewed June 2009): This live tutorial will help you to set up your own Delicious account, and save and organise all the useful websites you find.
Using Google Reader (created 2008, checked June 2009): Another online tutorial - set up your own Google Reader account and add RSS feeds to ensure you are always up to date. Make the Web work for you.
How to set up RSS feeds for searches in PubMed and EBSCO databases: This tutorial shows you how to create RSS feeds for searches in Pubmed and EBSCO databases, such as Academic Search Complete. You can do a search, then set up a feed for your Google Reader account (see above) or other RSS reader, which will send you new references related to that search regularly. IMPORTANT: at Step 3 of the tutorial, you should print the instructions before logging in. You will leave the Inform tutorial, and you should follow the print instructions from Step 3 while using the database.
