At the University of Worcester, links between ILS and the Institutes are maintained by a team of Academic Liaison Librarians.

This team is dedicated to assisting students to enhance their information skills for the benefit of their studies and beyond into the workplace, as well as developing collections held in Peirson and online by ILS. In brief, they:

  • Represent ILS within their assigned Institute, actively seeking methods to strengthen these links and ensure the specific requirements of staff and students are heard.
  • Develop and deliver Information Literacy teaching, and work collaboratively with academic staff, to provide recipients with the skills required to locate, evaluate and effectively communicate information in an increasingly complex environment . This is outlined in the Information Literacy Strategy (2008-12)
  • Develop the subject areas of the library’s collection relevant to their Institute. This includes analysing the current stock to identify gaps, as well as ensuring the quantity is appropriate to usage. This work is done with reference to the Information Resources Map and Collection Development Policy.
  • Act as an information specialists within their subject areas , offering one-to-one and small group sessions with all library users on appointment, showing them how to make effective use of library databases and other resources in their subject area. They also maintain a second line of enquiry help within Peirson or through the Askalibrarian service.
  • Promote methods for delivering key University policies around the provision and use of information as they are developed.
