Borrowing Items & Managing Accounts
Issuing, returning and renewing Library items
• All Library items are borrowed using the Issue machines in the foyer of the Peirson building. You must have your ID card with you in order to use the machines as we do not issue or return items at the desks (but we can renew books and accept fines). All Library items, including Restricted Loans and non book items, are returned at the Returns machine next to the Information Point. Please always check your receipt to make sure that all the items have been correctly issued and returned.
• You can access your account on the machines to renew items already on loan and pay any small outstanding fines (coins only).
• The best way to renew your books and other items is by logging on to the Library catalogue. You will be asked for your Borrower number (the number on your UW ID card) and your PIN. Contact Library staff if you need a PIN for this system.
• Please be aware that there is a fine limit set into the self service machines which will block you from issuing and renewing if you accumulate fines. If you have a problem please go to the Information Point. You will not be blocked from renewing loans online if you have a fine.
Requesting Library items
• You can request an item that is out on loan to another user by clicking on the ‘request’ button on the Library catalogue. They will be sent an email or letter to inform them that the item will not renew on the due date and on return it will be held for you. You will find the book in a white wrapper with your name on it on the right hand shelves in the Restricted Loan area. It must then be issued at the machine in that area. If the reservation is in a queue it will only issue for a week so please check your receipt.
• If a book has been requested by another user you will receive an email to your University email account asking you to return the book and, in this case, renewal won’t be possible. Please note the date due back in any messages about recalled books as this may have been brought forward.
Managing your Library account
• Any messages about your library account (e.g. overdue books) will go to your University email account.
• There is a formal procedure for missing books. Please let us know if you have looked for a book on the library shelves and not found it and if you have lost a book on loan to you.
• If books become very overdue on your account and you are not responding to reminders you will receive an invoice notification letter by post. This is to warn you that an invoice is being raised with the Finance department to cover replacement.
• If you are having genuine difficulties causing debts on your account please contact Lissa O’Grady (l.ogrady@worc.ac.uk), Customer Services Manager, as soon as possible. Our primary concern is to keep the books circulating.
