Personal Responsibility
Personal Responsibility
We would like everyone to benefit from all our services and enjoy using the Peirson Building. These are ways in which you can help us.
Borrowing and returning items:
• Have your student ID card with you at all times. You may be asked to produce this.
• Never lend your ID card (which is also your library card) to anyone or borrow items on their behalf.
• Remember that you are responsible for your own library account. If a friend returns something late or loses an item that is booked out to you the fine/invoice is your debt.
• Take good care of any library item or media equipment that you borrow. It must be returned in good condition or you may be asked to replace it
• Return items that have been requested from you promptly. It is important to everyone to keep the book stock circulating fairly.
Using the study spaces in the Peirson building:
• Take note of the code of conduct for the area you are in so that you are considerate to others. The zones in Peirson give users the choice of their most comfortable environment for study and it is important that this is maintained.
Taking care of your belongings:
• Do not leave valuable belongings unattended. It can be tempting to leave a laptop plugged in while you go for a coffee but this is your risk. We are unable to look after personal possessions for you.
• Bear in mind that valuable devices like USB sticks are easily lost and many look similar. Try and make yours as distinctive as possible and look after it.
• Ask at the Information Point initially if you lose anything because we have a procedure for lost property.
• Take particular care when printing/photocopying to avoid leaving confidential paperwork behind.
Keeping in contact:
• Messages about your library account (reminders and overdues) are sent to your University Netmail account. Please check this regularly. If you prefer to use a personal email account you can forward messages from Netmail to your personal account.
Using resources ethically:
• Make yourself aware of copyright regulations.
