Code of Conduct

Using the Peirson Building

The Peirson Building is a shared resource for all students and staff containing a range of study zones with different purposes. In order to ensure that the building is a productive place for everyone to work please choose the appropriate zone to work in and adhere to the Code of Conduct.

What we will do for you
Our aim is to include, not exclude. We will provide users with an environment that is:
• Safe, comfortable and clean.
• Staffed by individuals who respond to service requests with courtesy and respect.
• A positive and productive place for academic study, research and learning through independent and supported study.

What we expect from you
• Treat ILS staff with courtesy.
• Consideration of others using the facilities.
• Treat the facilities, books and other materials with respect.
• Observe the rules and regulations concerning the use of IT.
• Beverages should be in containers with spill resistant lids.
• Only consume cold food, which produces minimal mess and smell, on the Ground Floor of the Library (i.e., fruit, crisps, cereal and chocolate bars).
• Put all rubbish and waste materials in the proper receptacles provided.

Silent Study Zone: Talking, eating, audio devices or mobile phones are not permitted.
Individual Study Zone (Including the Information Skills Room): Mainly for independent study. Conversation should be quiet and kept to a minimum.
Group Study Zones: For group work of a purposeful academic nature. Please keep conversation to a level which allows others to use this area undisturbed.

Mobile phones and other audio devices: Please turn off audible ringers, and make phone calls in the Foyer, the Phone Zone (where indicated) or outside the building where others will not be disturbed. Personal audio devices with earphones are permitted if volume levels are kept low enough not to disturb others.
