Equality & Diversity

ILS liaises closely with the Equal Opportunities Team to enable us to provide support for students with specific learning requrements. Our equal opportunities ethos is to provide an inclusive service to all of our students.

All open access PCs have accessibility software including Text Help, Jaws, Lunar Plus and Inspiration; please note that headphones may have to be used for screen reading software which can be obtained from the issue desk.

ILS can also loan laptops and recording devices to students. Please contact us for more information.

We also endeavour to make the Peirson building as accessible as possible. The building has a lift to the first floor, located immediately to your left as you enter the building. Clear location signage is displayed throughout Peirson.

Enquiries and Help
If you feel that you will need help in locating items through Resources Online, and retrieving resources from the shelves, a member of staff will help you as long as you have made a prior appointment. Help in researching your subject is normally available from Ask A Librarian, the online enquiry service, and the staffed enquiry service in Peirson . If you feel that you need more time, then you may make an appointment the Academic Liaison Librarian for your subject area..

If you have not made a prior appointment for these additional staff services, then we may be unable to provide them. Please note that there are some services that we unable to provide. Reading and photocopying help is provided through the 'Assist' programme.

Additional Services

  • Students who are registered with the Disability and Dyslexia department may borrow Restricted Loans for 10 hours. You may renew once on the machine for a further 10 hours. Two week loans remain the same as they can be renewed almost indefinitely (unless reserved) and most people do not require an extra allocation of loans.
  • We have a special arrangement with the Disability and Dyslexia department for visually impaired students who require books transcribing to avoid books becoming overdue on individual records.
  • The IT & Media Point has a stock of cream paper that can be used for copying and printing for students who require this.
  • If you receive the Disabled Students Allowance you should charge your ID card with copying credits at the Finance Office to get your receipt. We are unable to provide these receipts in the library.
