PRES 2009

PRES 2009

The University took the decision to participate in the 2009 survey which was run from 1/3/09-31/5/09.  There were 29 respondents out of an expected 90.  This is a response rate of 32.2% which is above the national average response rate and is sufficient to provide a significant set of data. That the response rate is below that of last two academic years  is to be expected, given that the survey has not changed significantly in content and many students were reluctant to participate for a second time. The survey will not run in 2010 to avoid survey fatigue.

The responses to each question are available below. The mean, median and standard deviation are shown in red.

Survey sections
PRES consists of groupings of related items that can be added together to form scales. The purpose of using scales rather than individual items is that they are more robust and reliable indicators of the different aspects of the postgraduate research student experience. The PRES consists of six scales:
•0Supervision
•0Skill development
•0Infrastructure
•0Intellectual climate
•0Thesis examination
•0Goals and standards

PRES also has some stand alone items included to provide indicators of QAA Code of Practice for Postgraduate Research Students precepts that were not fully covered by the above scales. These comprise:

•0Progress and review arrangements
•0Student representations, complaints and appeals
•0Feedback mechanisms
