Research Centres and Groups

Research Centres and Groups

The development of specific areas of research excellence is an important part of the enhancement of the profile of the University and this is recognised in its Research and Knowledge Transfer Strategy.  The University wishes to continue to support Research Centres but also to allow for the development of Research Groups.  The distinction between a Centre and a Group is set out in a paper entitled Research Centres and Groups approved by Research & KT Committee in December 2010.  This paper identifies the key characteristics of a Centre and of a Group.  It then goes on to outline how a Centre is designated and the benefits of designation, before describing how Centre's are monitored and reviewed.  Groups do not require formal designation but this paper sets out what is required for setting up a Group.

The University's current Centres and Groups are as follows:

Association for Dementia Studies

National Pollen and Aerobiology Research Unit

Centre for People at Work

Centre for Rural Research

International Research Centre: Children's Literature, Literacy and Creativity

Early Modern Research Group
