Finding Funding

Finding Funding

One of the first questions that a prospective research student asks is 'can if get funding for my MPhil/PhD?'  The answer to this is: 'maybe!'

Each year, the University offers a number of full-time studentships which pay for your fees (at the EU rate) and provide a bursary of £12300 plus research expenses of £1000, all for three years.  These studentships, however, are attached to specific projects.  Details of the studentships currently on offer can be found here.

The Research Councils - government funded bodies which fund doctoral and postdoctoral research across all discipline areas - also provide a range of FT studentships and now, in some cases, PT studentships.  It should be stressed, however, that these studentships are very competitive and notoriously difficult to get; they are also subject to very definite eligibility criteria.  There is a lot of information on their websites which can be found here but if you are considering applying for a RC studentship please contact John-Paul Wilson (j.wilson@worc.ac.uk) who will be able to offer advice and assistance.

There are a range of other funders, often subject specific, who will offer some degree of financial support for research students, sometimes dependent on circumstances.  Often this support will be focused on research expenses rather than covering fees and general living costs.  Please cuse the relevant link for a list of  funders for Home/EU students, and a list of funders for International Students.
