Audacity® is a software package able to edit audio files in many formats. It is free and open source, and available for Windows, Mac and Linux Operating Systems.

Audacity can record live from a microphone, or enable easy editing of previously recorded material. Popular uses for this software include the recording of lectures which can then be made available to students in the form of podcasts, or as audio presentations in Blackboard. Audio output can also be used with other e-learning tools, effectively combining different modes of presentation such as PowerPoint slides with voiceover, or with screen capture software.
