Moodle Development

Moodle Development

The Moodle Pilot Project, run from 2007-2009 has now been successfully completed, and many University courses now have content available via Moodle as their primary VLE. Though use is still small scale compared to our main Blackboard VLE, it is still possible to continue to utilise the Moodle service where the use of Blackboard is not possible.

Colleagues at the University and partner colleges are warmly invited to become a part of the University of Worcester Moodle Project by running a component project. To join Worcester Moodle, contact the Project Director, Andrew Rothery explaining the purpose of the project, what is involved, and why Moodle rather than Blackboard or other systems should be used.

Project Leaders for component projects and activities must agree to provide the necessary resources required to run the project and agree to the working arrangements in the form of a partnership agreement. For example, as there will be no central registration of students; those using Moodle for online learning must themselves be responsible for the student registration for the courses, and for keeping the registration details up to date.

Once agreed, help and guidance is freely available from the LTTU, and we can help in training or the production of any extra learning materials as required. Extra Moodle plugins to provide extra functionality can be investigated and tested, and finally added to the service as suitable.

The Worcester Moodle Project covers a number of key aspects within the University Strategic Plan including:

• Evidence-based development in learning and teaching
• Working with regional partners
• Improving quality of student experience
• Ensuring e-learning is successfully integrated
• Innovation
