Plagiarism Detection and Prevention
Plagiarism Detection and Prevention
The LTTU encourages staff to use the Turnitin plagiarism detection service in conjunction with their module assessments to ensure all work handed in is original, and referenced correctly. This software is invaluable not only in highlighting plagiarised work, but is also extremely useful as a tool to address how best to cite and reference material correctly.Being able to reference properly by building on the work of others' is an essential skill, and the use of Turnitin is intended to allow students to make sure they understand what plagiarism is, and how it can be avoided.
Instructors can set up an assignment within the Turnitin service, and submitted papers can then be compared against billions of pages of digital content, as well as millions of papers in its student archive, and over eighty thousand professional, academic and commercial journals and publications.
Turnitin can be set up to be used by staff to check student submissions, and can also be used to enable the students to check their own work prior to assignment submission.
If you are a member of staff and would like more information on the Turnitin system, or need a Turnitin login to set up assignments for your students, please contact us at eos@worc.ac.uk.
