Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking tools allow users to build up a collection of web sites to which they apply descriptions, or "tags" to describe them. These collections can be searched by other users interested in similar topics, and new comments or links can then be added to this same subject area.

Tutors and librarians can set up reading and resource lists for groups of students via social bookmarking, and groups of learners with similar interests can exchange information and resources.

The main social bookmarking site used at Worcester is del.icio.us, and can be found at http://del.icio.us/.

Other popular sites can be found below:

Diigo - an online research tool which allows online bookmarking and annotation.

Digg - a popular news website where users can add news stories and vote and comment on submitted links.

Stumbleupon - with over eight and a half million users, Stumbleupon is a personalised browsing tool which presents only web sites that have been suggested by other users. Each time the 'Stumble' button is clicked, the user is presented material based on the collective opinions of other like-minded web surfers.
