Screen Recording

Screen Recording

Screen recording software allows tutors to capture on-screen desktop activity, and provide a voiceover or on screen annotation which relates to what is happening. This is an effective learning tool as it allows interactive lectures and visual demonstrations to be recorded and uploaded to Blackboard or Release for access by students at any time.

Both Camtasia Studio and Adobe Articulate are available through the LTTU,  and each offer slightly different feature sets. They can also be used in tandem to provide professional, simple, effective and easy to use learning materials.

Camtasia Studio
Camtasia is a simple screen recording tool which is quick to use, and produces a simple video file which can be inserted into presentations, blogs or websites.  Full screen recordings, selected windows or PowerPoint presentations can all be captured and edited to emphasize and elaborate with added audio or closed captions. Presentations can include quizzes, and the finished “vidcast” can also scaled down for use with mobile devices.

Adobe Captivate
Captivate is also used for screen recording and capture, though is slightly more complex. It also allows users to add text to speech functionality, many different file output options and PowerPoint file integration, as well as providing many professional project templates.
