Paul James and Will Creekmore have scooped individual national awards in recognition of their contributions to Worcester Wolves’ exceptional start to the season.
James has been named British Basketball League Coach of the Month and Creekmore Player of the Month after the Wolves – who lead the early-season league table – won their opening seven games of the campaign. It is the first time that the Wolves have held both awards at the same time.
After opening their season with a 117-60 demolition of the Surrey Heat, the Wolves claimed a memorable victory in their first ever home fixture at the University of Worcester Arena, beating reigning BBL champions Leicester Riders 73-61.
That match was watched by a record crowd of over 1,700, and James’ Wolves have ensured that there has been no let-up in the early-season optimism, by registering a further five victories, including last weekend’s 80-71 win over Newcastle Eagles.
Of his award, James said: “This is a testament to how well the team has performed. I’m so proud – everyone has bought into what we are trying to achieve at the club. The players have won this award, not me.”
Creekmore, one of eight first team players currently combining his basketball with studying at the University of Worcester, has averaged a highly impressive 20 points and thirteen rebounds per game so far this season, registering a double-double of points and rebounds in all but one of his seven appearances.
Wolves will aim to extend their winning run when they take on Plymouth University Raiders at the University of Worcester Arena this Friday, November 1st.
