Next week sees the opening of a new centre which will shape the strategic development of the University’s Physical Education and School Sport programme in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
Supported by Head teachers and Physical Education Coordinators from across the region, the launch event will take place on Wednesday, 3 July, at the University of Worcester Arena.
The event will showcase the highlights from the successful partnership work between the schools and the University. Key partners include Worcester City Council’s Sport, Art and Play Development Team; The Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire and Worcester’s School Games Organisers.
The new centre will provide support to schools in planning their curricular and extra-curricular sports activities, and will develop coaching programmes and projects to support the learning and teaching process.
With the knowledge, skills and experience to ensure that pupils receive the best sporting provision, the centre will also provide professional development opportunities, as well as coordinating a network of schools and local clubs to continue developing practices.
Mick Donovan, Head of the University of Worcester’s Institute of Sport & Exercise Science, said: “The University is recognised for engaging its students with schools and sports clubs in a wide range of sports and activities. This centre will strengthen our many partnerships and offer even greater support to coaches, teachers and children within the region.”
