The University of Worcester will host a trio of semi-finals tomorrow (Wednesday) as the sporting season approaches what is sure to be a dramatic conclusion.
The evening will see the Worcester Wolves face the Sheffield Sharks at the University Arena in the second leg of their BBL Trophy semi-final, while the University’s ladies’ netball and hockey teams will contest their crucial cup ties at the St John’s campus earlier in the day.
The action begins at 4pm, when the hockey team square up to Loughborough on the St John’s Campus Astroturf in their BUCS Championship semi-final.
At 5pm in the Sports Centre, the University netball team will also bid to reach their BUCS Championship final when they take on the University of Birmingham in the last four.
Sheli Morgan, Director of Netball at the University, says: “We have faced Birmingham both home and away this season, and come away with a hard fought win each time.
“We have already secured the league title, having gone through the season unbeaten, and we are training hard to carry that momentum through to the semi-final, and hopefully earn ourselves a chance to add cup silverware to the league trophy.”
Entry to both the hockey and the netball are free of charge.
A huge attendance is then expected at the University Arena, where the Worcester Wolves will be bidding to reach the final of the BBL Trophy as they take on Sheffield Sharks in the second leg of their last four clash.
The Wolves have enjoyed a stunning campaign so far, and are well placed in the league as well as being down to the last four of the long-running competition.
Mick Donovan, Head of the Institute of Sport and Exercise Science, says: “The fact that three of our teams are involved in such big games on the same day is testament to the fantastic year of sport we are enjoying at the University.
“All three matches promise to be entertaining affairs and will really give supporters the chance to get behind their teams as they continue their quest for silverware.
“We look forward to welcoming great crowds for the three games, and we will hopefully be celebrating a magnificent treble on Wednesday evening.”
Worcester Wolves against Sheffield Sharks tips off at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the St John’s Campus Sports Centre or the University Arena.
