A Social Work lecturer at the University of Worcester was invited to the Queen’s Buckingham Palace Garden Party in recognition of his work with the British Association of Social Workers (BASW).
Dr Peter Unwin was appointed as a Non-Executive Director on the Council of BASW two years ago after a nationwide ballot. His platform was one of fighting the bureaucracy that has overwhelmed current day social work and pushing for social workers to be freed up to spend time face to face with children and families.
“BASW face an uphill battle in the light of social work's media image and the increasing workloads that will come social workers' way as a result of the impending public sector cuts,” he said.
Peter has been particularly involved in recent months with governance issues and looks forward to continuing to play a key role in helping BASW grow and develop as the strong independent voice of social work and social workers.
